THIS RIDE CANCELLED DUE TO LACK OF INTEREST
In and around the area of Swan Lake in South Denali. Lots of open meadows and swamps…and scenery. Awesome views of Mt. Denali from here and PLENTY of area to bust up the deep snow. Intermediate skill level needed–nothing overly technical but a need for the deep as we’ll trek off the regular paths exploring. If conditions are agreeable to do so, group-optional to head up Long Point (easy) just above the valley floor.
RSVP PLEASE due to whims of the weather trend this time of year. Forecast calling for new snow early in the week but this ride will be contingent on getting new snow so updates will be available during the week. Best if you have a cell number that we can group-text for the updates.
We’ll meet at MP127 parking pullout on the Parks Highway (park facing out, best as perpendicular to highway) and be ready to ride at 10:30am. Mind your odometer leaving the village of Trapper Creek to know when you’ve reached 127….most often, the mile-marker posts are snow-covered from plows and hard to read. Bring a sack-lunch, beverage and extra gas jug advised for cuttin’ up the deep. We should return to the cars by 4pm latest.
WE’LL BE RIDING IN DENALI STATE PARK AND ON STATE LAND. please register your sled with the State of Alaska to avoid delays and potential fines. (Besides, $10 for two seasons funds the snowmachine trail grooming every winter)
