Update 2/15/19 – Ride is cancelled – I rode up to Nellie Juan yesterday and it was very difficult, even for advanced riders. Lots of open water leads on the lower river requiring water skipping. Up near the pass we encountered lower than normal snow depth and rocky/boulder sections that were hard on the sleds. I will reschedule if they get a good dump of snow and the river freezes up better.
UPDATE 2/12/19: This ride is RSVP only. A Go/N0-Go decision will be made Friday, February 15th depending on river ice and CNF snow conditions–CONTACT RIDE LEADER Dave Agosti for an update by Friday evening at 907-830-7005 via text or voice for confirmation.
This ride starts at the highway and takes you up the south fork of the Snow River and into the pass and overlooking Nellie Juan Lake with river riding and a challenging climb through the trees up into the pass. Roadside parking lot indicated on web map south of Kenai Lake.
Intermediate or higher skill level required. Some open water crossings may be necessary. Hill climbing and tree riding is involved, which can be difficult in new, deep powder conditions–expect to get stuck a few times. Avalanche terrain – safety gear required.
